The name of the senior exercise video series that I researched, designed and produced is Take 5 to Exercise. My seated exercise routines offer the viewer 5 different ways to reduce the risk of a fall by focusing on nationally recommended components of effective fall prevention programs.
Does it only take 5 minutes to do? No. Each DVD is approximately 20 minutes long, including intro, a safety checklist, movement routine and conclusion.
What does the 5 indicate?
5 different seated exercise routines=5 different ways to reduce the risk of a fall. Movement doesn’t have to be strenuous but it does have to be consistent, thus 5 different routines. Also, there the “Basic 5″ stretches consistently demonstrated in each exercise video. These movements can be done in 5 minutes!
What are the benefits of seated exercise?
When done consistently, the activities in the exercise videos I created for older adults will improve flexibility, increase strength, promote better posture and help maintain total body balance. Regularly engaging in an activity routine increases energy levels, too. Remember that a body in motion tends to stay in motion!!!
Will following these exercise videos PREVENT a fall?
I cannot guarantee a person will not fall. Falls are accidents and unfortunately, accidents happen. But when you Take 5 to Exercise each day, you SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the risk of a fall.
Is this safe for older people who live alone?
Yes, yes, yes!!! I designed the program for older adults who do not have the luxury of an activity director and for those who get their cardio-respiratory activity (aka, WALKING) elsewhere. Take 5 to Exercise is not intended to provide a cardiorespiratory workout. All the movements are done while seated and because I am a Nationally Certified Personal Fitness Trainer specializing in the senior population, I provide verbal cues to promote proper form and personal safety.
Invest in your future by investing in your health today. Take 5 to Exercise each day and you will notice the difference. Take responsibility for yourself and reduce the risk of another fall.
